Outline Outline
Alongside the economic principles, we will consider applied issues around utilities, transport and other sectors such as pharmaceuticals. We will look at public vs private ownership; securing infrastructure investment; splitting industries; and consumer protection. We will cover regulation in principle and practice, and consider what information economics can add to effective regulation. The course will deliver a mix of theory linked to UK case studies and current research.
It is suitable for those with an economics background, or with some previous study of economics. It will be of interest to participants with experience of regulation and competition, who want to increase their understanding of the underlying economics. It will also be useful for those with limited sector experience, who want to know more about the key issues in competition and regulation across the U.K.
